How to Improve Your SEO Ranking

seo ranking in malaysia

Google providing the majority of visitors to most websites, including sifuweb.com. This article provides some tips on how you can improve the position of your site in the search engine results on search engine.

Links Pointing to Your Website

One of the factors that contribute to a web page being considered “important” is the number of links pointing to that page. For example, if your page has 100 quality links leading to it, it will be ranked higher (in Google’s estimation) than one that only has 20.

But what are “quality” links”? These are links from other popular pages, that is, pages that have, themselves, many (quality) links pointing to them. (Yeah, I know. My definition is circular. And it’s possible that the search engine has other factors that determine the quality of a link.)

Anyway, in general, since Google ranks your pages according to the number of links pointing at your page, your site will do better if it has more links pointing to it.

Sign up with Webmaster Tools

On-site optimization (making sure all the technical details of your site are how they should be for both search engines and searchers) can be complicated. Luckily, both Google and Bing offer a suite of webmaster tools to make it simpler.

If your website isn’t registered with webmaster tools, do that now. If you’re set up but not familiar with all of its elements, dig in a little and explore.

You’ll get information about your site’s health and speed, any crawl errors Google finds and lots more.

Create an XML sitemap

One of the most simple actions a webmaster can take is to create an XML sitemap, this is best understood in layman’s terms as a ‘list of all of the URLs on your website’. Submitting this to Google Webmaster Tools ensures that you provide all pages that are active on your site, giving them a head start when trying to discover, and index, your content.

Create good navigation links.

Think about making your customer’s journey within your website as easy and smooth as possible. The shorter the steps they need to make to find your contact details, to register, or to complete a sale, the higher success rate you would receive. Search engines crawl your website through your navigation links, so if your customers are happily browsing, good chance that search engine crawlers are too.

Create a mobile optimized website.

Mobile usage is growing exponentially so now is the time to get ahead in the game.

Always keep in mind that SEO is not just a process to make sure search engines are happy, it is a process to make sure you are delivering the best customer service to your customers.

Make sure that you link from social profiles

If/when you create company profiles for Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc., make sure that you include the link back to your site. You’d be amazed how many people either overlook this or simply forget to do it (e.g. if they’re in a hurry). While you may not get a lot of SEO value from the social profile links themselves, they may get picked up elsewhere (e.g. being on Twitter directories usually passes more SEO value than being on Twitter itself).

Your Page Must Have the Words You Think People Will Search For

Besides the title tag, if you want your website to feature in Google’s results when someone searches for a set of words, say “SEO Malaysia”, those words must actually occur on your page. Think about it from the point of a search engine. If you don’t put the words “SEO Malaysia” somewhere on the page, how is the search engine supposed to know that the page deals with that topic? The search engine is not a human being who can draw inferences from the general tone and content of the page. Even if it can handle some synonyms, you’re going to compete with other sites who have specifically placed those words on their site.
